Hosting (GitHub Pages)
This website is hosted by GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. St., San Francisco, CA 94107, USA, as a “GitHub Pages” site. When you open the page, GitHub processes technically necessary data in server logs, in particular your device's IP address. The purpose is to deliver the page and to keep operation stable and secure. We ourselves have no access to these logs.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR – our legitimate interest in operating the website securely and reliably.
Transfer to the USA: GitHub is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and additionally offers Standard Contractual Clauses as a safeguard. GitHub determines how long the logs are retained; for details, see GitHub's privacy statement: https://docs.github.com/privacy
No Cookies on This Website
This website sets no cookies and embeds no external fonts, scripts, or trackers – all resources (stylesheet, images, icons) are served from the same server. That is also why you will not find a cookie banner here: there is nothing to consent to.
Contacting Us
If you write to us by email, we process your email address and the content of your message solely in order to handle your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where a contract or its preparation is involved, and otherwise Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (our legitimate interest in answering your enquiry). We delete your message once the enquiry has been dealt with and no statutory retention obligations apply.
Our email mailbox is provided by Google (Gmail). Google LLC is likewise certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
No Automated Decision-Making
We do not use automated individual decision-making, including profiling (Art. 22 GDPR).
Google Play (download and usage statistics)
The app is distributed through the Google Play Store. When you visit the Play Store and download the app, Google processes data as its own controller, which is outside our influence; Google's privacy policy applies: https://policies.google.com/privacy
Google also collects technical information and statistics during usage (e.g. install and crash reports, usage metrics) and provides them to us only in aggregated, anonymized form – we cannot identify individual users from this data.
The Remindery: Birthdays App
The Short Version
Remindery: Birthdays does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to us or to third parties. The app works entirely without a server, without an account, without analytics or tracking services, and without advertising. Whatever you enter into the app stays on your device.
Local Data Storage
All data you enter into the app – people, birthdays, gift ideas, notes, and settings – is stored exclusively on your device. Nothing is transmitted to us or to third parties; the app does not establish any internet connection of its own.
You remain in full control: individual entries can be deleted directly in the app. Uninstalling the app removes all stored data from your device. If you create device backups (e.g., through your operating system), those backups are subject to the privacy policy of the respective backup provider.
Contacts Access (Optional)
The app offers to import names and birthdays from your address book. This access
- happens only upon your explicit action (import feature) and after you grant the system permission,
- is read-only – your contacts are never modified or deleted,
- serves solely to locally import names and birthdays into the app.
Imported data never leaves your device either. You can revoke the permission at any time in your system settings; the app remains fully usable without it.
Notifications
Birthday and gift reminders are scheduled and displayed locally on your device. No third-party push services are used, and no data is transmitted for this purpose.
Data Export and Import (Optional)
The app offers an optional export of your data into a file, as well as the import of such a file. Both happen only upon your explicit action and entirely locally: the app creates the export file on your device and hands it to your operating system's share feature. Where the file ends up (e.g., your own cloud storage, an email, or another device) is entirely your decision – nothing is transmitted to us or to third parties chosen by us. The handling of the file at the destination you choose (e.g., a cloud provider) is subject to that provider's privacy policy.
No Cookies, No Tracking, No Data Sharing
The app does not use cookies or comparable technologies, does not create usage profiles, and does not embed any analytics, advertising, or social media services. No data is shared with third parties – we simply have no data that we could share.
Your Rights as a Data Subject
The GDPR grants you, among others, the rights of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and objection (Art. 21), as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77).
Right to object under Art. 21 GDPR: Where we process data on the basis of our legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) – this concerns the server logs generated when you visit this website and the handling of your email enquiries – you have the right to object to that processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation. We will then no longer process the data unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests, rights, and freedoms.
Regarding the app: Since the app transmits no personal data to us, these rights come to nothing there in practice – we hold no app data about which we could provide information, or which we could rectify, erase, or transfer. This does not apply to this website's server logs or to email enquiries; there you can exercise your rights without restriction. Please note for the server logs that we have no access to them ourselves – in that respect GitHub is the right addressee.
For any privacy-related questions, you can reach us at: reminderyapps@gmail.com
Changes to This Privacy Policy
Should future app features require the processing of personal data (e.g., an optional sync feature), we will update this privacy policy accordingly and publish it in the app and at this location. The current version published here always applies.
